Do you want to be crowned the ultimate Windy City Hacker and do some good in the process? Well now is your chance. On June 28-29, 1871 is playing host to BattleHack Chicago, an app development competition where teams of developers compete for a shot at the World Championship in San Jose, California where they can win $100,000 and the revered axe trophy. The event takes place over two days in which competitors will work tirelessly to create an app that will impress the judges.

BattleHack is a truly global competition having already visited Tel Aviv, Miami, San Francisco, Istanbul and Toronto so far this year. Competitions will be held in nine more cities in seven different countries. The winners of each of these global competitions will meet in San Jose, California for the BattleHack World Championship.

For the finals last year the challenge for the competing developers was to construct an app that was beneficial to the community and incorporated the sponsor PayPal in some way. The winners of the $100,000 grand prize created an app called Donate Now where users could donate money to organizations of their choice quick and easily through their PayPal account.

This year the competition is much the same as the challenge for competitors is to create an app that helps solve a local problem. Registration is still open here for any team of developers who thinks they are up to the challenge. Join us this weekend. We look forward to a great event.
